Yale and Laura Averill Support

Hello Friends,

My work at Youthfront revolves around creating space for young people to practice contemplation, find belonging, develop a healthy theology, and encounter mentorship.  There are few places doing this sort of work, so I’m excited for the opportunity to be part of this thing that was so formational for me at many stages throughout my life and also has the possibility of shaping the culture of future generations.
…so here’s the thing.
If I’m going to tell my cabin leaders every summer that there is power in intentional vulnerability, it’s time for me to come clean and practice what I preach. I need help.  Living so far from my friends and family often leaves me feeling overwhelmed and isolated, which I’m fairly certain is due, in part, to my avoidance of this thing that I’ve been needing to do for a long time. Laura is finishing her student teaching, we are saving to buy our first home and we hope to one day add more humans to our family. There is no possible way for us to achieve these goals considering our current financial reality.
If I am going to go all-in with Youthfront as my career, I’m going to have to ask you to partner with me. My position at Youthfront is one of those that draws its salary from a support fund made up entirely of committed believers in me and the work I do at Youthfront.  The idea of recruiting help and raising funds is very scary for me. I fear rejection and I fear having friendships tainted by the exchange of funds. That being said, I know that many of you have your own stories of formational experience at Youthfront, and many of you who don’t, have already been finding ways to support us over the years. You bought my pottery, you donated to our donkey rescue fund, you’ve sent us mail, snuggled our baby goats, bought yarn and joined us for meals and bonfires. When I think about these things, I begin to suspect that my fears are unwarranted.
If you love us and want to see our work at Youthfront continue, please consider becoming a monthly contributor to my livelihood. There is no amount of support too small. I would also love to connect with you over coffee or dinner. Feel free to call or email. I’m hoping that this campaign results in more than the mere raising of funds. I’m hoping it is the beginning of many lifelong friendships. Let’s use this as an excuse to get together over coffee and/or food. What do you say?
