Something To Eat™ KC is a hands-on experience that gives participants the opportunity to pack nutritious meals for neighbors facing food insecurity — a growing challenge across our community. In the Kansas City area, 1 in 8 people struggle to access enough food, including 1 in 6 children. Through your efforts, we can help change those numbers — one meal at a time.
Something To Eat KC is more than just a volunteer event; it’s a chance to serve together, build community, and see the impact of compassion in action. All ages are welcome, making it a perfect activity for families, youth groups, schools, businesses and church teams.
We are proud to partner with Harvesters – The Community Food Network, a leading hunger relief organization serving 27 counties across northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Through this partnership, meals packed at the event will be distributed directly to local food pantries and community organizations within Harvesters’ trusted network, ensuring the food reaches those who need it most. This collaboration not only increases the distribution power of the meals we pack, but also significantly amplifies the visibility and community reach of the event.

Breakout Sessions and Experiences: We are planning some unique experiences that you can participate in beyond just your packing session! Stay tuned for more information coming soon.
Can I volunteer at the event? YES! We need volunteers in many areas from early morning to end of day. We are working on the different needs now and will send our information soon. Stay posted!
Where are the meals going? We are partnering with Harvesters, our community’s largest food bank, to distribute meals through their network of more than 600 nonprofit agencies including emergency food pantries, community kitchens and homeless shelters.
Can kids participate? YES! There is no registration fee for kids 7 and under. Due to the national food safety requirements, children 7 and under may help with labeling and boxing but not with raw food ingredients during packing. Parents with children in that age group may choose to have them participate in the primary packing lines in those kid-approved roles OR they may participate in the specific kids’ activities that will also be offered during the packing sessions.
