SUMMER STAFF 101

Everything you need to know about joining our staff

FAQ

Applicants must be high school graduates.

Youthfront typically offers 10 weeks of camp, starting at the end of May through the first week of August. Training for Summer Staff usually begins in mid-late May, about a week and a half prior to camp opening. We encourage all staff to take time off during the season, and we’re willing to work with those who can only commit to a portion of the summer as well.

We just ask that you agree with our organization’s mission and values and come ready to serve with a heart for kids. All Youthfront staff must pass a background check and complete training on all of our policies and procedures, including our Child Protection Policy.

Yes, Summer Staff positions are paid. And of course, all of your housing and meals will be provided by Youthfront during your summer employment. We pay a flat amount for training and set rate per week. Compensation is based on prior experience and some positions are eligible for a higher starting wage. The rates for 2025 start at $250/week.

Various bonuses for recruiting and alumni are available. Helping to raise funds for the ministry is part of all Youthfront staff’s roles. Summer Staff who exceed that summer’s fundraising goals are eligible for an additional bonus.

Each summer, our Summer Staff participate in a fundraising project. Past projects include raising camp scholarships for children in need. Staff who exceed their goals are eligible for an additional bonus.

Youthfront’s camp sessions are structured around fixed-hour liturgical prayer (morning, midday and compline/evening). Campers also have morning and evening gathering where the camp storyteller, who functions as the onsite pastor for that week, shares Biblical stories and themes and our worship band leads music. Staff have the opportunity to sing or play in the worship band. Cabin leaders and program staff also have dedicated spiritual formation times each day. No matter your role, there is time for worship, prayer and reflection.

No. We are a Christian camp that serves a broad range of churches across denominations. Many youth pastors bring their youth groups to camp, but many of our campers also come on their own and are not necessarily connected to a church. Some may be learning about Jesus for the first time.

We love to have Summer Staff in from out-of-town! Staff who live out of the area are welcome to remain at camp on the weekends. (In fact, some of our in-town staff choose to stay some weekends).

We give all staff a short break over the July 4 holiday and close camp. We encourage out-of-town staff who can’t go home during that break to stay with a friend, and many of our local staff and families are happy to host.

We have a designated kitchen for Summer Staff, fully equipped and with fridge and freezer space. Many staff bring some of their own favorites to cook or bake together. Our camp meals are buffet style and always include certain staples like a salad bar. Summer Staff can also access our Snack Shop, where popcorn and soda is always free to staff.

Cabin leaders bunk together in the leader room of a cabin. The leader room has a private bathroom with a shower. Program Staff bunk together in suite-style housing on the ground floor of our Activity Center. All suite rooms also have private bathrooms.

Multiple washers and dryers are available to Summer Staff to use.

No, a car isn’t required and we always have staff who serve without one. You will need to arrange your own transportation to and from camp.

Joining our Summer Staff is unlike any summer job you'll ever have. It's life-changing in the best way. What are you waiting for?
