AT OVERNIGHT CAMP volunteers serve alongside a trained Youthfront Summer Staffer as another caring adult in a cabin (as a cabin leader) or in our programs as a volunteer program assistant. Session time for overnight camp ranges from 2-4 nights depending on the camper’s ages and session date. You’ll assist with all aspects of camp life including cabin experiences, camp activities and spiritual formation times alongside our staff.Â
AT DAY CAMP volunteers serve alongside the Director of Day Camp and our Summer Staff as another caring adult in the Day Camp program, which serves ages 1st-5th grade at Camp West. This fun camping experience takes place Monday through Friday from approximately 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and includes the bus ride to camp. Volunteer Day Camp Leaders are asked to commit to a full session (week) of camp, rather than just one day, if at all possible.
Yes, all volunteers must be 18 years old or older and pass a background check.
We will provide a series of videos ahead of time that will help better prepare you for your time as a volunteer. All volunteers must also pass a background check, which will be part of your volunteer application paperwork. Youthfront’s Child Protection Policy guides all of our adult/camper protocols, and on or prior to your session, we’ll provide you with training on those important rules that protect both youth and adult staff. Other than that, all you need is a heart to serve! Our on-site staff will always ensure you have the information you need anytime you help facilitate cabin programs and activities.
No! We welcome anyone with a heart for this ministry to serve. You do not have to be a camp parent or grandparent. Often, our camp alumni enjoy coming back to spend a session as a volunteer leader.
Cabin Leaders share a Cabin Leader room with one bunk bed and private bathroom with a shower that is separate from the camper accommodations. We have air-conditioned cabins at both of our camp locations. There are bathrooms and showers in each cabin, and campers sleep on bunk beds. Most cabins accommodate up to 16 campers and two leaders.Â
All meals are provided, and adult leaders eat with campers in our dining halls at camp. Meals are offered buffet-style, and we have the ability to provide gluten and dairy free options for each meal. Day Camp volunteers can bring their own lunch each day, if desired.
For Overnight Camp, besides your clothing and personal toiletry items, you will want to bring bedding for a single bed and towels. We have a suggested packing list we will send you ahead of your session, which will also include the theme of your session’s HYPE (themed) nights where campers and staff dress up or bring costumes.
For Day Camp volunteers, we suggest you come with swimwear and a change of clothes as each day will start with water activities such as the pool or lake. While participating in the water activities isn’t mandatory, it is encouraged! We will also communicate ahead of time of other items that might be helpful to bring.
For family members who volunteer during their camper’s session, we have a special incentive where your *camp deposit will be discounted from your account balance as a thank you.
*Deposits are $50 for Day Camp and Kids Camp two-night sessions, $75 for Kids Camp three-night sessions and Session 10 of Middle/High School Combined Camp, and $100 for all other Middle/High School sessions.
If you serve as a volunteer during your camper’s session, we will credit your camper account for the amount of your deposit. The credit will be applied for those whose applications are completed, have passed the required background check, and have been officially assigned as a volunteer to a camp session.Â
Lots of caring adults volunteer in our program all summer! If you have a grandparent, aunt, uncle or other adult 18 or older who would like to volunteer in your camper’s session, please just let us know so we can apply the credit to the camper’s account. Please note that we can only offer one discount credit per camper.
While we welcome and need many volunteers, we can only offer one discount credit per camper.
Each volunteer can apply their discount to one camper account only.
You will register your camper and pay your deposit as normal. Deposit credits will be issued after volunteers are assigned. We will update your dashboard once you’ve been officially accepted and approved to volunteer for your camper’s session.
Deposit amounts vary by camp type and session. Deposits are $50 for Day Camp and Kids Camp two-night sessions, $75 for Kids Camp three-night sessions and Session 1 of Middle School Camp, and $100 for all other Middle/High School sessions.
