Catie’s Story

My name is Catie and I have spent 12 summers at Youthfront as a camper, Teen Staff, and Summer Staff. This is my third summer on staff; I was a Cabin Leader at West for two summers in 2012 and 2013 and am now working as the Program Director Assistant. I have one semester left at Kansas State University where I am getting my degree in Secondary Education, English and Journalism.

My first summer at Youthfront was when I was going into fourth grade. My church, Christ Community Evangelical Free Church, brought everyone in late elementary, middle school, and high school to Youthfront. I kept camping throughout middle school at West and then high school at South (now LaCygne). During my time as a camper, I looked up to and wanted to be like all of my cabin leaders and the staff I saw working. They were such role models to me about how to love and grow in God. After my eighth grade year, I decided to volunteer as Teen Staff because my cabin leader really encouraged me to try it out. I loved it! I saw through my peers and my various Teen Staff supervisors how to serve God through constantly serving others. The motto, “Backseat, middle, feet on the hump,” really showed me how to exemplify Christ through service in all areas of my life. After Teen Staff, I wanted to apply for Summer Staff. I saw how much joy there was in the Christ-like community and I wanted to be a part of that. Being on staff for three years now has really brought serving and growing in God together.

The reason why I’ve been with Youthfront in some capacity for so long is because I’ve seen the desire to truly help youth grow in Christ. The Youthfront mission statement is, “To bring youth into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.” I’ve been the recipient of this when I was a camper and on Teen Staff. Youthfront brought me role models to see what it means to exemplify Christ daily. The workers gave me tools and resources to build a strong and solid foundation in Christ. I’ve been on the giving side of this when I was on staff. The staff energy dedicated to helping youth grow at camp and throughout the school year is so apparent in everything the staff does. Youthfront helped my faith grow so much, and continues to help my faith grow. I have continued to give so much time here because I want to help others grow in their faith.
