Harper’s Story

I got involved with Youthfront by accident. The summer before my sophomore year in high school, I had a few friends at my church who were Teen Staffing, and they were telling me how they were understaffed for one of the last weeks of the summer. I thought to myself, “I’m not doing anything next week, and I love kids. Why not?” So I got in touch with the Teen Staff supervisors at the time and soon after, I was thrown into my first week on Teen Staff. Little did I know that one week at Youthfront would change everything for me.

I went into that week knowing no one, and I came out of it with some of the closest friends I’ve ever made. The day I got home from camp, I already wanted to go back and started planning my next summer around as many weeks of camp as I could get. This summer, I’ve been blessed to get to know so many amazing people on Teen Staff and develop friendships with the Summer Staff as well as our Teen Staff supervisors.

I’ve never felt such a strong sense of community like the one here at Youthfront. Everyone is so kind, encouraging, and open to talking about their lives and how the Lord has impacted them, and they are equally as interested in hearing my story as well. I’ve had so many wonderful conversations this summer with people I normally would be too afraid to talk to, specifically people on staff. There aren’t many places where you can walk up to someone you barely know and ask, “What are you passionate about?” or “Where have you seen God in your life recently?” and get a real, honest answer. But Youthfront is different. At Youthfront, that happens all the time.

My closest friends to date are people I’ve met through Teen Staff, and I’ve been given so many amazing role models on Summer Staff to look up to. I can honestly say that I see God so clearly at camp, whether it’s through the campers we get to serve or through the birds I hear chirping before breakfast every morning or in the kind and generous spirits of all of the wonderful people I get to work with. He is so present and so persistent in speaking to me through this place. I’m so unbelievably blessed to be able to serve here. I will treasure my time at this camp with these people that I love forever, and Youthfront will always hold a special place in my heart.
