Riley’s Story

Youthfront has been one of the most influential places in my life. My two summers spent working with these kids and this amazing staff have reinvigorated my faith. I never thought I would learn so much from the middle schoolers that I have in my cabin every week. They truly amaze me with their absolute wonder of our Lord and Savior.

One of the most memorable discussions I ever had was during my first summer here. A camper raised their hand during our open discussion time and just looked at the ceiling and said, “I find it amazing that the God who created everything–all the stars, the moon, and the whole universe–still took the time out to make me.” I was simply awestruck at how simple yet profound my camper was in that moment. Moments like this happen all summer as well. I think they have managed to teach me more about faith than I ever imagined.

The staff working here has been absolutely amazing as well. I have had the honor and privilege of working under Ben Snethen for the past two summers and I would not have had it any other way. His leadership style taught me what it meant to have a boss who not only cares about how you are at your job but also cares about you as a person. I’m never afraid to talk to him about life and the issues that I might be facing outside of camp. Because of him and the other veteran cabin leaders from the summer of 2015, I felt welcomed into this big happy family and was so welcomed that I came back for a second summer. After being at camp for two years, it has taught me what it means to have a community that is constantly building people up and because of that, Youthfront Camp West will always have a special place in my heart. I cannot wait to see the plans that God has in store for here.
