Lindsay’s Story

I discovered Youthfront through my neighbor. At first I was hesitant, but after she persisted, I gave in and made the best decision of my life: Teen Staff. I was amazed at how easy it was to let my guard down around the other staff and Teen Staff members. I went from being shy, awkward, and lacking self-confidence to a person who is loud, outgoing, and sure of herself. It is crazy to look back at myself three years ago and see something so different than how I am now. Because I know how it feels to be new and uncomfortable, I make it my job to be inclusive and welcoming to younger Teen Staff. As a senior, I want them to feel involved and confident with being themselves. It really is key to lead by example. I try to be hardworking so others want to do the same. It may be difficult to find motivation to work at times, but when I think about the bonding that campers experience at meal times, the special moments kids encounter at gatherings, and the safe fun they have during free time, it makes it all worth it.

I have been a part of Teen Staff for 3 years now, and in that time I have learned just how important relationships are. Community is a big part of the Youthfront environment, especially with Teen Staff. It still amazes me how one day I can meet a person, and a few days later be sharing a deep conversation with them. The bonding happens so easily through working, playing, and loving together. Youthfront really does have a special place in my heart and has been a huge factor in the development of my personality and faith journey. I have met some of my very best friends at camp, and the relationships I create there are wholesome and God-centered. I feel fully confident that the friendships I create while at camp will be lifelong and I am comfortable going to any of those friends to talk about anything.

I can confidently say that Youthfront has changed my life for the better, and impacted me in so many ways. I want to help provide the best experience possible for Teen Staff and campers so that they too can feel the effects of this camp and the presence that God has here.
